Lotus may have not won the 24th hours of Le mans general classification but they won 3times “The index of performance”, 1st time in 1957 with Lotus eleven fitted with a 750cc climax engine.

At the time, the Le Mans regulations included a classification known as the Index of Performance. The index is a measure of a car achieved by calculating the distance it travels during the race against its piston displacement.
